DUE WEST, S.C. –
Sydney Stewart went 6-for-8 with a triple, a home run, three runs batted in, and she scored five runs to help Flagler College sweep Erskine College, 17-5 in five innings and 6-2, in a non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at the EC Softball Complex.
Flagler won its fifth game in a row and improved to 5-3 overall. Erskine fell to 0-10. The Saints take on Newberry College tomorrow at noon in a doubleheader.
Flagler wasted little time in the first game. The Saints scored five runs in the first inning and sent 11 players to the plate.
Hannah Smith hit a two-run single to start the scoring barrage.
Stewart socked a two-run home run in the fourth as Flagler scored another six runs in the frame.
That was more than enough offense for
Jordan Sheets (2-1) who went the distance as she scattered 10 hits and five runs to go along with six strikeouts.
Smith went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, three runs batted in, and she scored two runs for Flagler. Stewart finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored.
Morgan Hicks collected two singles and
Kiley McQuillan went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and she scored a run.
Emily Ricci wen 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and she knocked in a run.
Kinsley Kay (0-3) took the loss in the circle for Erskine. She lasted two-thirds of an inning and allowed five runs on five hits.
Brooke Patterson and Maddie Ingram each went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
Flagler scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning to break up a 2-all tie in the second game.
The Saints loaded bases when Smith was hit by a pitch. The Flying Fleet has committed an error to start the inning, and then the shortstop committed another which scored Stewart from third with the go-ahead run. An error by the third baseman allowed two more runs to score.
Rachel Hester (1-2) earned the win as she allowed two runs on seven hits to go along with five strikeouts. She induced seven ground outs and seven more fly outs.
Stewart finished 3-for-4 with a triple, one RBI, and she scored two runs.
Mallory Ruzicka (0-2) took the loss as she allowed three earned runs on five hits.
Patterson collected two hits for Erskine.
