ST. AUGUSTINE -
Sharale McCormick scored a season high 27 points for Flagler College in its Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game against Augusta University Wednesday evening at the Flagler Gym. Flagler downed Augusta, 76-68.
Flagler improved to 9-13 overall and 5-8 in PBC play. The Saints snapped a six-game losing streak to the Jaguars. The last time Flagler won was on Jan. 22, 2022, a 73-60 win at St. Augustine. Augusta dropped to 15-7 for the season so far and 7-5 in the conference. The Saints will return Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym to face PBC opponent Clayton State University.
Carleigh Grimm made the first of two free throws to give Flagler its largest lead of the game, 56-38, with 4:09 left to go in the third quarter.
Augusta methodically chipped away at the deficit and trailed seven (72-65) after a pair of free throws by Nyaneit Puok with 51 seconds left in the game.
McCormick sank 10 out of 13 free throws for Flagler. Se'lah Reddick tacked on 12 points, tallied four assists, and grabbed three rebounds.
Destiny McClendon added seven points and five rebounds,
Marley Smith added seven as well.
Jessica Dowdy came off the bench to contribute nine points, three assists, and two steals.
Flagler shot its highest percentage in a game, 44.9 since making 50 percent of its shots vs. USC Aiken on Jan. 8.
Autumn Phillips led Augusta with 12 points, with six of those points being three-pointers, and two from free throws. Quinasia Abercrombie had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Amari Jackson tacked on 11 points while Elyse Autrey chipped in with 10 points and three assists.
