MELBOURNE, Fla. – Flagler College scored two runs in the ninth inning and had the go-ahead run on base with two outs but couldn't get any closer in a 7-5 loss at Florida Tech in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
Florida Tech snapped its three-game losing streak and evened its record to 4-4. Flagler dropped to 5-2. Flagler opens a four-game homestand against Eckerd College on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
Trailing 7-3 going into the top of the ninth, pinch hitter
Kevin RisCassi greeted Florida Tech reliever Zach Rodgers with a double to left-center. Two batters later,
AJ Hunerberg reached on an error by the shortstop, which scored RisCassi who had moved up to third on a ground out. Hunerberg advanced all way to third on an errant pick-off attempt by the pitcher and scored on
Tripp Davis' single through the left side of the infield.
The Panthers brought in Noah Steckley to close the door.
Caden Kresak hit a single and
Carson Page drew a walk to load the bases. But Steckley got
Justin Haskins to fly out to left field to end the game and record his second save.
Ethan Stephens (1-0) got the win after tossing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Tyler McClanahan hit a two-run single for Saints in the sixth inning.
Isaiah Wellman (1-1) took the loss on the hill after tossing two-thirds of an inning and he allowed four unearned runs.
