COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Jessica Dowdy scored a team high 13 points in Flagler College's 74-52 loss at No. 20 (WBCA Division II Top 25) Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center.
The Lady Cougars won their fifth game in a row and improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. The Saints dropped to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Flagler returns home to face Georgia Southwestern State University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
The game was tied at 29 at the half, but Columbus State used a 13-0 spurt in the third quarter to take control of the game. The Lady Cougars began the third quarter with a 12-2 run, but the Saints trimmed the deficit to five (42-37) after an
Abby Smith layup. Samara Saunders started the 13-0 run with a layup with 5:11 left in the quarter. Columbus State out-scored Flagler 31-13 in the third quarter.
Kalecia Holiday led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting and she added nine rebounds for the Lady Cougars. Nekaya Williams added 19 points, seven steals, and five rebounds. Saunders tacked on 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Sophia Williams grabbed a game high 13 rebounds.
Columbus State forced 31 Flagler turnovers and cashed them in for 27 points.
