ST. AUGUSTINE –
Dennaye Hinds was one of six Flagler College players to score in double figures as she had a team high 16 points in a 91-70 triumph over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at Flagler Gym.
Flagler snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the Peach Belt. The last time the Saints defeated the Lady 'Canes in St. Augustine was Jan. 11, 2020 (64-58). Georgia Southwestern had its six-game winning streak snapped and fell to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Flagler hosts the University of South Carolina Aiken on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The Saints used a 21-5 run that started in the closing minutes of the first quarter and extended into the first three minutes of the second quarter to pull away. Hinds scored half of her points, eight, in that spurt.
Flagler took a 50-29 lead into the half.
The Saints lead would swell to as many as 29 (69-40) in the third quarter.
Natalie Herrin and
Emerson Kutz each scored 13 points for Flagler.
Carleigh Grimm added 12 points and seven rebounds while
Gabby Bush and
Jessica Dowdy scored 10 points apiece. Herrin led the way with eight rebounds and six assists, both were game highs.
Flagler shot a season-best 55 percent (33-60) from the field and tied a season-best in three-pointers made with 10.
Ray'ven Robinson scored a game-high 22 points for Georgia Southwestern. Kassidy Neal added 17 points and six rebounds.
