ST. AUGUSTINE –
Aspen Weeks scored a team high 14 points as Flagler College defeated the University of South Carolina Aiken 62-49 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler extended its winning streak to two games and improved to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt. The Saints have won four-of-the-last-five games in the series. USC Aiken dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Flagler will visit Cochran, Georgia for the first time to face PBC newcomer Middle Georgia State University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The Saints shot 50 percent (7-14) from the field in the first quarter and held a 16-8 lead. Flagler grabbed its largest lead in the second quarter, 27-10, after a
Marley Smith three-pointer with 5:32 left in the half.
The Pacers closed the second quarter on an 11-3 run and trailed at the half 30-23.
A Morgan McDermott three-pointer with eight minutes to go in the third quarter made it a one possession game with Flagler hanging on to a 34-31 lead. The Saints would score the next four-of-five-points and the Pacers never got closer than four points the rest of the game.
Emerson Kutz added 12 points and five rebounds while
Marley Smith added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Jessica Dowdy had a game high four steals.
Mackenna Nix led the Pacers with a game high 19 points. Mahkayla Premo finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
