AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Flagler College men's soccer team had six players selected to the All-Peach Belt Conference teams and
Filip Hornburg was tabbed as PBC's Defensive Player and Freshman of the Year according to a release this morning by conference officials.
Earning first team honors was Hornburg and
Ryan Rivas. Receiving second team accolades were
Finn Weigelt,
Gustav Moberg,
Alex Alexandrou and
Daniel Becerra.
Since the PBC's Defensive Player of the Year, presented by College Ave. Student Loans, was created in 2022, a Flagler player has won or shared the award each year – Tirso Trueba (2022),
Jackson Kirila (2023) and
Max Gottwald (2024). This is just the third time a Flagler player was selected as the PBC's Freshman of the Year – Joseph Toby (2009) and George Winsler (2022).
Hornburg, a freshman defender from Oslo, Norway, has scored four goals and tallied one assist in 17 starts. He has logged 1,530 minutes so far this season and is part of defense that has recorded seven shutouts. Hornburg was the PBC Defender of the Week twice this season (Oct. 13 and Nov. 3).
Rivas, a junior goalkeeper from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, holds a 1.00 goals-against average and has seven shutouts. He has a league-leading 80.2 save percentage. Rivas is second in the conference in GAA and leads the PBC in shutouts. He was selected as the PBC Goalkeeper of the Week four times this year (Sept. 15, Sept. 22, Sept. 29, and Nov. 3).
Weigelt, a junior forward from Berlin, Germany, earned his second all-conference honor. He has scored three goals with one assist in 16 matches.
Moberg, a redshirt junior midfielder from Borås, Sweden, has scored one goal and tallied one assist. He has played in all 18 matches and has logged 1,413 minutes.
Alexandrou, a sophomore midfielder from Colchester, England, picked up his second all-conference award in as many seasons. He has scored three goals and has tallied five assists for 11 points. Alexandrou has played in all 18 matches with 14 starts. He is seventh in the PBC in assists per match (.278) and game-winning goals per match (.111).
Becerra, a junior defender from Barranquilla, Colombia, has scored a goal and assisted on another in 17 matches. He has logged 1,469 minutes played. Becerra was selected as the PBC Defender of the Week on Sept. 22.
Flagler takes on the University of South Carolina Aiken tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Saints Field.
