WINTER PARK, Fla. – Finlay Prain's goal in the 10
th minute was all Rollins College would need in a 2-0 win over Flagler College in a NCAA Division II Tournament third round match Sunday afternoon at Cahall-Sandspur Field.
Rollins, the No. 5 seed, improved to 12-4-5 and advanced to the national quarterfinal round where it will face the winner of the Mississippi College-Lynn University match. Flagler, the No. 8 seed, had its season end with a 15-3-6 record. The Saints won 27 games in the last two seasons; the most wins recorded in a two-year span since 2011 and 2012.
Michel Hoelscher dispossessed the ball from a Flagler player in front of the press box area at midfield and quickly lobbed a pass to the top of the box. The pass connected with a sprinting Prain whose left-footed shot found the back of the net in the far-right corner.
Justin Nelson scored an insurance goal in the 79
th minute for the Tars.
Kilian Vallant turned in a clean sheet as he recorded three saves.
Ryan Rivas finished with five saves for the Saints.
Rollins out-shot Flagler 20-11 as Nelson led the way for the Tars with five. Three different Saints had two shots. Flagler held a 9-4 edge in corner kicks and committed 13 fouls. Rollins had eight fouls.
