ST. AUGUSTINE — Emerson Kutz was one of five Flagler College players to score in double-digits with a game high 16 points in an 87-59 rout over Southern Wesleyan University in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday morning at Flagler Gym.
Flagler improved to 3-2 while Southern Wesleyan dropped to 1-3. The Saints will return to action on Tuesday against Florida Tech at Flagler Gym at 5 p.m.
Flagler led 23-17 after one quarter, but used a 14-1 run to start the second quarter to put the game away. Kutz scored eight of the team's 14 points in that spurt. The Saints led by 22 (51-29) at the half.
Marley Smith added 13 points and eight rebounds while
Abby Smith delivered 12 points and five rebounds.
Gabby Bush contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Natalie Herrin finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Bre Jones tacked on seven points and three assists.
The Warriors were led by Trinity Nesbit, who scored 13 points on perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the field. Kyra Price added nine points, and Makayla Raines contributed eight points for Southern Wesleyan.
Flagler shot an impressive 91.7% from the free throw line (22-24). The Saints controlled the glass 42-28, with 16 of those being offensive rebounds that led to 22 second chance points. Flagler was opportunistic as it forced 15 Southern Wesleyan turnovers and generated 21 points.
