AMERICUS, Ga. –
Luke Williams scored the equalizer in the 83
rd minute as No. 24 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College escaped with a 2-2 draw with Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Wednesday night at Hurricane Stadium.
Flagler extended its unbeaten streak to seven matches and now holds a 5-1-3 overall record and a 2-0-2 mark in the Peach Belt. Georgia Southwestern is 3-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. The Saints stay on the road and will face the University of North Georgia on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the UNG Soccer Complex.
River Beeman served the ball into the box to set up the equalizer.
Luke Williams had a spinning one-touch pass to the left of the goal box.
Daniel Becerra chipped the ball with his left foot to the top of the goal box where Williams had a wide-open shot at the goal and buried the ball in the back of net.
Down 2-0, the Saints got on the board when
Gustav Moberg was in the right place at the right time in the 81
st minute. Flagler had a throw in from the right sideline that went all the way into the box. After bouncing off a couple of players, Moberg was there having moved out of the crowd to the far left and blasted a shot inside the left post.
Cesar Rubio-Amaya and Dante Johnson scored goals early in the second half.
Ryan Rivas collected a career-high 10 saves for Flagler. Noah Kasin finished with six for Georgia Southwestern.
The Saints out-shot the Hurricanes 18-14 and was led by
Henry Okenla's six shots. Rubio-Amaya led GSW with five shots. Flagler held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks and the Saints committed 11 fouls to the Hurricanes' seven.
