ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College head baseball coach Greg Guilliams has announced the addition of Gio Alfonzo as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator.

"We are thrilled to welcome Gio to our coaching staff," Guilliams said. "He is already making an immediate impact and has an extremely well-rounded baseball mind, as shown by his success in college and in professional baseball. We look forward to having Gio as part of our Flagler Athletics family."

Alfonzo rejoins Guilliams after being on his staff at Valdosta State University in 2024 as a graduate assistant. With the Blazers, he served as the primary hitting and infield coach. In 2024, Valdosta State led the Gulf South Conference in hitting (.327).

He was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 21st round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft. Alfonzo played three seasons for the Marlins organization and one year in the New York Mets organization. He also spent time playing independent league baseball.

Alfonzo played collegiate baseball at Florida State University and the University of Tampa. He played in three NCAA College World Series, two with Tampa and one at Florida State. Alfonzo helped lead the Spartans to the national title in 2015 and was a third team ABCA Division II All-American that same year.

He graduated from Tampa with a bachelor's in sport management in 2015 and working on his master's in business administration from Valdosta State.
