BLUFFTON, S.C. –
Destiny McClendon poured in a game-high 23 points to help Flagler College roll past USC Beaufort 86-59 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Sand Shark Recreation Center.
Flagler evened its overall record to 8-8 and improved to 4-3 in the Peach Belt. USC Beaufort lost its fifth game in a row and fell to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Flagler hosts Lander University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
The Saints used a 14-2 run in the third quarter to pull away from the Sand Sharks. Twelve of those points came from the free throw line. Flagler made 30-of-37 (81 percent) from the charity stripe in the game. McClendon made 11-of-12 from the free throw line for the Saints.
Abby Smith was a perfect 6-for-6 while
Sharale McCormick made all four of her attempts.
Marley Smith made 6-of-8.
Marley Smith recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. McCormick added 18 points while Abbey Smith tacked on 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Jazmine Major chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.
Flagler out-rebounded USCB 48-36 and grabbed 24 offensive boards that led to 23 points. The Saints also forced 25 turnovers, which were cashed in for 22 points.
Lydia Gattozzi led the Sand Sharks with 20 points while Janiyah Heyward contributed 12 points. Brielle Bartlet added 10 points.
