GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Flagler College women's track team competed in the 3000 meter race this morning at the RADD Sports Invitational at the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe.
A very successful season opener for the distance squad was led by senior
Taylor Stone who pulled in an impressive 9:43.73 finish, placing second in a pool of 27. Stone's season opener put her ahead of seven Division I athletes representing institutions like Florida International University and Florida A&M University. With this time, Stone ranks No. 14 in the nation in the 3000 meter, sitting one second between No. 13 and No. 15.
Monique Whiteman was the only remaining Saint to crack the top five, where she trailed Stone in third place with a time of 10:03.76. In the top 10,
Enola Savel trailed Whiteman in sixth place while
Abby Misch placed 10th overall. Savel pulled in a new personal record with 10:31.64.
Among other standouts of the race was junior
Hope Siner, who placed a narrow third in her heat with her new personal record of 10:42.49. Sophomore
Zoie Marchant smashed her previous record by over 20 seconds, finishing 11th overall in a time of 10:30.65.
Eden Goddard rounded out heat one with an impressive 18 second improvement from her last personal record, with a time of 10:43.05.
Chelsea Paglia was the final Saint to score a new personal best, running a staggering 43 seconds faster than her previous, with a time of 11:44.12.
The Saints will look to pick up where they left off, next week at the Florida Collegiate Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
