ST. AUGUSTINE -
Clare Sheedy tallied 27 assists, added eight digs, and had three total blocks in Flagler College's 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-19) loss to Eckerd College in a non-conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler fell to 4-6 on the season while Eckerd improved to 7-1. Flagler opens Peach Belt Conference play on Friday at Augusta University at 6 p.m.
The first set went to the Tritons, 25-23. The Saints took the first lead of the set (6-5) on a four-point run with
Jordan Berglin igniting the run with an ace. Eckerd rallied with a seven-point run as Jaida Clark and Kinga Michalska each had a kill and a total block. Flagler regained the lead (23-22) after a kill by
Molly Boyd. The Tritons, however, closed the set out with thee consecutive points. The set had nine ties and four lead changes.
The second set heavily favored Eckerd 25-12. Antypa led the Tritons to another seven-point run separating them from the Saints 20-8. The Tritons reached set point and the Saints prolonged the set two more points with
Amelia Fitzpatrick serving. The Eckerd defense limited Flagler to a -.043 hitting percentage in the set.
The Saints kicked off the third set with a point coming on a
Meredith Dixon and
Molly Boyd block. The lead switched hands several times with Flagler taking a 9-7 advantage on a four-point service run from
Cassidy Bloom. Eckerd took the 13-10 lead with Sydney Williams serving. Points went back and forth for the remainder of the set but the three-point run lead the Tritons to a 25-19 set win.
Boyd led the offense with eight kills and finished with a .389 hitting percentage. Berglin was right behind her with seven while Dixon contributed six.
Lexi Basler and Fitzpatrick paced the defense with nine digs apiece. Bloom added seven more. Boyd doubled as the leading blocker with four assists while Sheedy and Dixon both added three.
On the opposing side of the court, Michalska led the Tritons with 13 kills. Williams recorded a match-high 13 digs. Gabi Jedrezejczak tallied 35 assists.
