ST. AUGUSTINE –
Paige Churchill and
Andrea Fernandez each scored a goal and tallied an assist in a 2-1 Flagler College win over the University of West Florida Sunday afternoon at Saints Field.
Flagler improved to 2-0-1 while West Florida dropped to 2-1-1. The Saints open up Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday (Sept. 21) at 1 p.m. against Lander University at Saints Field.
In the sixth minute, Churchill headed in Fernandez's cross to put the Saints on the board.
Eleven minutes later, Churchill lobbed a pass from the midfield line across to the left of the box where Fernandez buried the ball inside the post.
Mya Swinton scored an unassisted goal for West Florida in the 56
th minute.
Henley Grunst recorded six saves for the Saints while Maciah Lipsey finished with four saves for the Argonauts.
West Florida out-shot Flagler 18-10 and the Argonauts held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
