ST. AUGUSTINE –
Paige Churchill and
Andrea Fernandez each scored a goal as Flagler College and Lander University played to a 2-2 draw in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
Flagler is 2-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the Peach Belt. Lander moved to 4-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in league play. Up next for the Saints is Eckerd College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Petersburg, Florida.
Paige Churchill got the Saints on the board in a hurry.
Mikayla Lambert's through ball found Churchill at the top of the box and she buried a shot into the lower left corner of the goal in the third minute.
In the 32
nd minute, Cisel Akugel was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick by
Andrea Fernandez. She converted the penalty to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. Fernandez led Flagler with four shots on goal.
Angele Hills scored the equalizer for Lander in the 57
th minute.
Henley Grunst recorded seven saves for the Saints while Leah Hayes Coen finished with five for the Bearcats.
Lander out-shot Flagler 15-12, but the Saints held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. It was a physical game with Lander being whistled for 18 fouls and a total of five yellow cards were handed out in total.
