ST. AUGUSTINE - Lexie Morton was named the GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player as No. 9 (IWLCA Division 2 Top 25) Flagler College women's lacrosse team earned back-to-back Gulf South Conference Tournament Championships.
Flagler took down the University of Alabama-Huntsville 21-8 in the championship game at Flagler Lacrosse Field on Sunday.
The Saints now sit 17-2 overall and the Chargers finish at 12-7.
The Chargers scored the first goal but the Saints quickly retaliated, scoring six unanswered goals to take an early lead and end the first quarter.
The second quarter saw one goal for each side with the Saints leading 7-2 going into halftime. UAH picked up their momentum with four goals in the third quarter with Flagler tacking on seven more of their own. The Saints outs coded the Chargers 7-2 in the fourth quarter, earning a running clock at 18-8. Carly LaFerriere made two man-up goals to extend the lead 20-8 and with one second left, Barbara Tucker put one in to finish the game 21-8.
Ava Fudjinski and Shannon Finch both tabbed two goals for the Chargers.
Lexie Morton scored five goals and added an assist on the day. Eight different Saints scored a goal today in their conference championship victory.
