ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 3 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College triumphed 5-1 over No. 20 Ferris State University in a non-conference men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center. The match was moved to a 10 a.m. start due to the impending weather.
Flagler improved to 6-2 overall while Ferris State fell to 5-3. Up next for the Saints is Belmont Abbey College on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Like last Saturday's match against the University of Charleston, only the singles matches were played as the women were also playing their match at the same time. Top-ranked
Baptiste Mercier got the Saints on the board first with a 6-3, 7-6(5) win over Esunge Ndumbe. No. 7-ranked
Jacopo Denitto followed with a 5-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory over No. 44 Benjamin Lortie.
Simon Malis and
Philipp Lemken also posted wins while
Ilian Borlee downed Jan Koupil 6-1, 7-6(4). Borlee has won four matches in a row and improved to 8-1 this season.
