ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 6 (Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Top 25) Flagler College won its home opener today over No. 18 University of Charleston in a non-conference women's tennis match at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Flagler evened its record to 2-2 and Charleston was handed its first defeat and fell to 5-1. The Saints host Ferris State University on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Leonie Floeth and
Toni Pfeiffer triumphed at No. 2 doubles, 6-3 and shortly thereafter, the No. 7-ranked tandem of
Dana Heimen and
Nadja Meier defeated Sofiia Krasikova and Filippa Larsson 6-4 to earn the team doubles point.
In singles play, the Saints won all but one match. Heimen posted the first win with a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Krasikova. Meier, ranked No. 2 in the nation, defeated No. 11 Prinkle Singh in the first set 6-0 and Singh retired before the second set.
Charlotta Buss defeated Larsson 7-6(0) and 7-5 to put Flagler up 4-0.
Eryka Kruk and Pfeiffer sandwiched two straight-set wins around the lone set-back.
