ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 21 (Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Top 50) Flagler College defeated its second consecutive top-five ranked team with a 5-2 victory over No. 5 Midwestern State University in a non-conference women's tennis match Friday morning at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Flagler won its sixth match in a row and improved to 6-2 overall. Midwestern State had its four-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-3. The Saints are idle until next Friday when they travel to West Palm Beach, Florida to take on Palm Beach Atlantic University.
The Saints captured the doubles point after
Eryka Kruk and
Charlotta Buss won their match 6-2, and then No. 9
Dana Heimen and
Nadja Meier finished moments later with a 6-2 win. That was their seventh win in a row.
Flagler won four singles matches in straight sets to capture the match. Meier, rankd No. 2, rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win over No. 46 Jessica Binzari. Meier is a perfect 4-0 against nationally-ranked opponents.
Leonie Floeth coastes to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sofia Giraldo. Kruk kept it rolling for the Saints with a 6-1, 6-4 victory, which was her ninth win in a row. Heimen defeated No. 52 Hannah Yip 7-5 and 6-2 to earn Flagler's final point.
