FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No. 21 (Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Top 25) Flagler College won its fifth consecutive match with a 5-2 victory over No. 3 Wayne State University in a non-conference women's tennis match at the NSU Tennis Complex at Rolling Hills.
Flagler improved to 5-2 and Ferris State had its six-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 10-4. The Saints host Midwestern State University on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Saints opened doubles play with a loss, but rebounded when No. 7-ranked tandem of
Nadja Meier and
Dana Heimen defeated No. 4 Anais Ruyssen and Marta Komar, 6-3.
Laura Jipescu and
Eryka Kruk, paired for the first time since the fall, won the decoding match, 6-4, over Justine Beaulieu and Shanice Weekes.
Meier, ranked No. 2 in the nation, opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Ruyssen. That was her fifth win in a row. Kruk extended her winning streak to eight with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Weekes.
Charlotta Buss clinched the match at No. 3 singles. She defeated No. 61 Marta Komar, 6-3 and 6-4. It was her first win over a nationally-ranked opponent.
Dana Heimen wrapped up Flagler's fifth point with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-2 win over No. 72 Malak Arafat.
