ST. AUGUSTINE – The No. 7-ranked (Clippd Division II ranking) Flagler College women's golf team is in eighth place after the first round of play at the 12
th annual World Golf Invitational. The Saints shot a 12-over par 300 today at the World Golf Village's Slammer & Squire Course (par 72; 6,049 yards). The second round was suspended due to darkness and golfers with resume the round at 8 a.m. tomorrow with the final round to follow.
No. 11 Lynn University leads the 17-team field with an even par 288. They hold a three-stroke lead over No. 21 Lander University. Top-ranked Nova Southeastern University is in third place with a 5-over 293. There's a three-way tie for fourth place with a 7-over 295. Eight of the 17 teams competing are ranked in the top 25.
Josefine Winkle of Lander leads the 92-woman field with a 4-under 68. Adriana Iribarren of Lynn and Maia Samuelsson of Nova Southeastern are tied for second place just two shots off the lead.
Shanya Arasu and
Stella Jelinek are tied for 18
th place with a 2-over 74.
Jordyn Hodgson and
Henriette Stranda both shot a 4-over 76 and are tied for 34
th place.
Sophie Wheeler carded a 9-over 81.
Sloane Siebert and
Victoria Veator played as individuals. Siebert shot 5-over 77 and Veator carded a 7-over 79.
