KEARNEY, Neb. – With the score of the match sitting at 2-2, No. 4 (Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Top 25) Flagler College could not get a win at Nos. 3 or 5 singles and lost 4-2 to the host school University of Nebraska-Kearney in a consolation round match at the ITA Division II National Women's Team Indoor Championship Saturday afternoon at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.
Flagler fell to 0-2 and will take on Peach Belt Conference rival Columbus State University tomorrow at 8 a.m. Central in the seventh-place match. Nebraska-Kearney improved to 5-1 and will face Wayne State University in the fifth-place match at 11 a.m. Central.
The Lopers opened the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. Flagler won the first doubles match when
Leonie Floeth and
Dana Heimen cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 1.
Nadja Meier, ranked No. 2 nationally, took care of No. 49 Fabiana Gamboa in straight sets (6-3 and 6-0). Heimen knotted the team score at 2-all with her win at No. 2 (7-5 and 6-3).
UNK won a three-setter at No. 5 and clinched the match when No. 9 Jazmin Zamorano won at No. 3 singles.
