BLUFFTON, S.C. – Flagler College held a 56-54 lead with 37 seconds left to go but the University of South Carolina Beaufort rallied with a basket and two free throws to win 58-56 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Sand Shark Recreation Center.
USC Beaufort won its fourth game in a row and improved to 9-15 overall and 5-11 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 11-15 overall and 6-10 in conference play. The Saints play their penultimate game on Wednesday against Lander University at 5:30 p.m.
The Saints held a 55-54 lead when
Destiny McClendon was sent to the free throw line with 37 seconds left. She made the first of two free throws. The Sand Sharks got the rebound on the missed free throw and Madison Self's layup tied the game with 13 seconds to go.
Sharale McCormick missed a jumper in the closing seconds and Mahkayla Premo grabbed the rebound. She was fouled on the baseline and stepped to the charity stripe with one second on the clock and sank both free throws.
The game was tight throughout as there were 14 ties and 19 lead changes. Neither team held a double-digit lead.
McCormick scored a game-high 19 points for the Saints. She added five rebounds and three steals to her line.
Se'Lah Reddick finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Laney Noreika grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and blocked two shots.
Premo and Taniyah Bowman each tallied 15 points for the Sand Sharks. Shaniya Rose grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and Self added 10 more. Brielle Bartlet had five steals.
USC Beaufort knocked down 20 of 27 free throw attempts.
