No. 4 Flagler women lose season opener

KEARNEY, Neb. – Laura Jipescu posted the lone win of the day for No. 4 (Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Top 25) Flagler College in a 4-1 loss to No. 7 University of West Alabama in a quarterfinal round match at the ITA Division II National Women's Team Indoor Championship Friday afternoon at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

It was the season opener for Flagler and it will take on the host school, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Central in a consolation round match. West Alabama improved to 3-2 and will now face top-ranked Barry University in a semifinal match at 5:30 p.m. Central.

The Tigers took both doubles matches 6-1 to earn the first team point.

The Saints trailed 2-0 early in singles when Jipescu won her match 6-4 and 6-3. But West Alabama closed it out with wins at Nos. 3 and 1 singles.
