ST. AUGUSTINE –
Sharale McCormick led four Flagler College players in double-figures with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds while
Laney Noreika scored a career-high 16 points in a 77-61 win over Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 11-14 overall and 6-9 in the Peach Belt. Columbus State had its four-game winning streak come to an end as it dropped to 14-9 overall and 10-5 in conference play. Flagler visits USC Beaufort for the first time on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. tip.
The Saints held a 35-32 lead at the half, but they pulled away in the fourth quarter. Flagler closed the third quarter on an 8-2 run and
Dane Bertolina's three-pointer to start the fourth gave the Saints a 59-49 lead. Flagler ended the game with a 9-3 spurt in the final 2:10. McCormick was responsible for six of those points.
McCormick made 7-of-15 from the field and sank all six free throws. She added four assists. Noreika made 7-of-8 from the field and added five rebounds.
Jessica Dowdy added 14 points and five rebounds while
Destiny McClendon chipped in with 10 points. Bertolina led the team with nine rebounds and
Se'Lah Reddick dished out a game-high six assists.
Letiya Reeves led the Lady Cougars with 14 points. Olonna Rawls added 12 points, eight rebounds, and had five steals. Bre"lyn Snipes contributed 11 points and five rebounds.
Columbus State struggled from long range knocking down just 18.5 percent.
