Destiny McClendon scored a game-high 20 points and
Sharale McCormick recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in Flagler College's 79-61 loss at Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at The Loch.
Flagler is now 10-14 on the season and 5-9 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State improved to 9-14 overall and 7-7 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is Columbus State University on Wednesday at Flagler Gymnasium.
The Saints shot 69.2 percent from the field in the first quarter and held a 24-17 lead after the first 10 minutes. Both teams went back and forth in the second quarter before the Lakers took a 39-37 lead into the break.
Clayton State used an 8-2 run in the opening 1:46 of the third quarter to take control of the game. A short jumper by Nine Blade gave the Lakers a 49-39 edge.
An
Aspen Weeks three-pointer with 9:23 to go in the game closed the deficit to five (59-54), but Flagler could not pull any closer.
Weeks supplied eight points coming off the bench and
Se'Lah Reddick added seven rebounds and seven assists.
Jada Alston led four players in double-figures for Clayton State as she tallied 17 points. Deborrah Redmon added 12 points and nine rebounds while Aaliyah Reed recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
