Box Score MORROW, Ga. – In the waning moments of the game, and trailing by two,
Omar Figueroa got the handoff from
Tyler Collier and drained a three-pointer and Flagler College rallied to defeat Clayton State University 76-75 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at The Loch on their homecoming.
Flagler snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 14-10 overall and 7-7 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State extended its losing streak to four games and dropped to 7-17 overall and 3-11 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is Columbus State University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
With 14.8 second left in regulation, Clayton State had to inbound the ball after Flagler's
Mason Manning sank a jumper to cut the deficit to 75-73. Shortly after the inbounds pass was made, Flagler double-teamed Tyler Shirley who shuffled his feet and was called for travelling.
On the next play, Figueroa in-bounded the ball to Collier near the elbow and Collier handed the ball off a hustling Figueroa who took a couple dribbles and hit a fade-away jumper in front of the Flagler bench with 6.5 seconds to go. He finished with a team-high 19 points.
Clayton State's desperation shot was off target as the horn sounded.
The game featured seven ties and six lead changes. The Saints had the largest lead of the game, nine points, and that was with 8:57 left in the second half.
Destin Clark posted his fourth double-double of the year with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He four assists to his line.
Jax Bouknight added nine points, three assists, and two steals.
Travis Harper led all scorers with 26 points and he completed the double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds. Shirley added 22 points for the Lakers.
