Destiny McClendon scored a team-high 18 points and
Amuk Tong tallied a career-high 16 points in Flagler College's 73-59 loss at Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Augusta won its sixth game in a row and improved to 17-6 overall and 11-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 10-13 overall and 5-8 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is a road game on Saturday against Clayton State University at 3 p.m.
The Jaguars used a 13-1 run late in the first quarter and it extended into the midway point of the second to break open a 12-all tie. Tomiyah Alford bookended the run with a pair of baskets. She finished with a game-high 22 points. Autumn Phillips was responsible for seven of those 13 points. She finished with 21 points and eight rebounds.
Augusta held a 32-23 lead at the half.
The Jaguars increased their lead to 14 (45-31) halfway through the third quarter, but the Saints answered with an 11-2 spurt to close the gap to five (47-42) going into the fourth quarter.
A McClendon layup with 9:01 to go in the game got Flagler to within four (50-46), but the Saints couldn't get any closer.
Tong made 6-of-12 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds for Flagler.
Sharale McCormick finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Dane Bertolina contributed with nine points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
