ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Flagler College women's track and field team split their weekend at two different meets. Athletes were competing at the Florida University Last Chance Meet in Gainesville, Florida and the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan.
Abby Misch and Taylor Stone both improved their already nationally ranked times at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday (Feb. 9). Misch hit the provisional mark in the 800-meter with a time of 2:12.44 that earned her a 10th place finish; and Stone hit the mark in the mile with a time of 4:45.98 and a third place finish. Misch ranks 29th in the nation and Stone ranks 11th. Maddi Hood finished behind Misch in 11th with a time of 2:17.47. In the mile, Monique Whiteman finished 10th in the mile with a time of 4:59.11.
On Saturday, those four women competed in the distance medley relay (DMR) and earned a 10th place finish, hitting the NCAA provisional mark with a time of 12:04.33. This time ranks them 29th in the nation.
"We competed well against some of the best DII runners in the nation, and managed to improve our national standing for both Taylor Stone and Abby Misch," said head coach Brian Beil. "I consider it a successful weekend and something we can build on moving forward."
In Gainesville, the best finish for the Saints came in the 800-meter with Lea Steinbach (2:20.09) in second place. Aaliyah Jordan and Mattison Culver finished one behind the other in 11th and 12th.
Freshmen Madison Miller (8.34) and Zoe Zinnie (8.51) ran in the 60-meter preliminaries, placing 28th and 33th respectively. Natalie Dempsey finished 17th in the 400-meter with a time of 1:03.78. The Saints had three runners finish in the top ten in the mile: Marissa Kempf (5:17.77) in 6th, Eden Goddard (5:22.12) in 7th and Sam Gayton (5:28.39) in 9th.
Eleven athletes competed in the 3000-meter with four of them finished in the top ten. Clemence Treguer finished in fifth with a time of 10:17.01, following her was Chloe Smith in seventh with a time of 10:18.55. Megan Churchill (10:23.41) and Enola Savel (10:23.94) finished back to back in ninth and tenth, respectively.
The Saints will return to the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe for the Peach Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on Feb. 19.
