ST. AUGUSTINE -
Destiny McClendon came off the bench to score 14 points in Flagler College's 68-60 loss to Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game this afternoon at Flagler Gym.
The Saints drop to 3-5 for the season and 0-1 in the PBC. The Lady 'Canes improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the PBC. Up next for Flagler is the Florida Tech Holiday Classic Dec 20-21. The Saints open at noon against Florida Tech on Dec. 20 at the Clemente Center and then faces the University of Tampa at 2:15 on Dec. 21.
Carleigh Grimm added 12 points and eight rebounds for Flagler.
Jessica Dowdy and
Jazmine Major tallied seven points apiece.
Se'Lah Reddick corralled eight rebounds, dished out four assists, and had two steals.
Destiny Garrett stood out for the Lady 'Canes with a game-high 28 points and five rebounds. She knocked down 4-of-5 from three-point range. Ndidiamaka Ndukwe added 18 points while Shane' Jackson finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Georgia Southwestern wiped out a one-point deficit (56-55) with a 13-2 run over five minutes to put the game out of reach. Ndukwe and Destiny Garrett hit three-points to start the run.
GSW shot 42.6 percent (26-61) from the field, out-shooting Flagler who shot 38.3 percent (23-60) from the field. The Lady 'Canes made 10 three-pointers and shot 41.7 percent from behind the arc. The Saints made three treys and was limited to an 18.8 percent mark from long range.
