MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Sharale McCormick led four players in double figures with 19 points, 11 in the final quarter alone, as Flagler College defeated Florida Tech 78-67 in the first round of the Florida Tech Holiday Classic Friday afternoon at the Clemente Center.
Flagler, playing in its first game in almost three weeks, improved to 4-5 and avenged an earlier loss to Florida Tech (Nov. 16), 67-59, at Flagler Gym. Florida Tech lost its fourth game in a row and dropped to 4-6. The Saints close out the tournament tomorrow against the University of Tampa at 2:15 p.m.
McCormick made a career high five 3-pointers and made 6-of-11 from the field overall. She added two assists, a blocked shot, and a steal to her final line.
Destiny McClendon added 17 points and dished out four assists while
Jessica Dowdy finished with 16 points, three assists, three steals, and two rebounds.
Carleigh Grimm added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.
Jazmine Major corralled a team-high nine rebounds and
Se'Lah Reddick dished out a team-best five assists.
The Saints forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 21 points.
Sarah Liberatore scored a game high 21 points while Tai Roberts added 10 more. Kyandra Poitier grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
The game featured 10 ties and six lead changes. Florida Tech's Jessica Lange made a layup with 8:25 left to go in the game to tie the score at 57-all. But McCormick sank a trey that sparked a 12-2 run by the Saints. Flagler shot 55.6 percent (10-18) from the field and made 3-of-6 from long-range in the fourth quarter.
