MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Sharale McCormick scored a game-high 22 points but it wasn't enough as Flagler College fell to No. 15 (WBCA Division II Top 25) University of Tampa 58-48 to close out the Florida Tech Holiday Classic Saturday afternoon at the Clemente Center.
Flagler slipped to 4-6 as it closed out its non-conference schedule for the year. The Saints will break for the holidays and return to action on Jan. 4 at the University of North Georgia. Tampa won its fifth game in a row and improved to 11-2.
McCormick finished 9-of-19 from the field and was 3-of-8 from 3-point range. She grabbed six rebounds, tallied three assists, and collected three steals.
Carleigh Grimm,
Jessica Dowdy, and
Jazmine Major each added eight points.
Marley Smith corralled six rebounds.
The Saints had a tough third quarter as they made 2-of-14 from the field and was limited to five points.
Sariana Rodriguez led the Spartans with 17 points and six rebounds while Zoe Piller notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Audrey Ramsey added 12 points and eight boards.
Flagler trailed by 11 (45-34) at the end of the third quarter, but chipped away and pulled to within four (45-41) after a pair of baskets by McCormick with 8:28 left to go in the game. Tampa followed with an 11-2 run over the next 6:55 to pull away.
