ANDERSON, S.C. –
Sharale McCormick's game-high 19 points aided Flagler College as it knocked off Anderson University 83-71 in a non-conference women's basketball game at the Southeast Region Crossover Friday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.
Flagler won its first season opener since Nov. 12, 2021 when the Saints defeated the Trojans 66-60 at Flagler Gym. Anderson was picked to finish in second place in the South Atlantic Conference's preseason coaches' poll. Flagler closes out the tournament tomorrow against UVA Wise at 11 a.m.
Abby Smith came off the bench to supply 16 points while
Jessica Dowdy and
Se'Lah Reddick contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Jazmine Major just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Dane Bertolina also grabbed 11 boards.
Rose Gravel and Ashlyn Sheridan each tallied 17 points for Anderson. Gravel grabbed nine rebounds while Sheridan, a preseason second team All-SAC selection, added eight more.
Flagler held Anderson to 0-of-15 shooting from behind the arc.
After Sheridan completed a traditional three-point play (basket and free throw) to get the Trojans to within one point (59-58), the Saints went on a 15-6 tear to pull away for good. Dowdy sank a 3-pointer with 8:34 left in the fourth quarter to spark the run.
