Saints send seniors off with a five-set win over Pacers

ST. AUGUSTINE – It was only fitting to have a couple of seniors shine on "Senior Day" as Jordan Berglin had a match-high 18 kills to go along with 11 digs while Molly Boyd added 13 kills, five total blocks, and four service aces in Flagler College's 3-2 (25-17, 25-23, 16-25, 24-26, 15-7) win over USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Sunday afternoon at Flagler Gym.

Flagler extended its winning streak to seven matches and improved to 12-9 overall and 5-2 in the Peach Belt. The Saints have secured no worse than second place in the PBC Tournament. USC Aiken dropped to 12-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is the regular season finale against Lander University on Friday at 6 p.m. at Flagler Gym.

After the match today, Flagler honored its seniors – Lexi Basler, Jordan Berglin, Molly Boyd, Jordan Norwood, Cecilia Robert, and Colby Stempkowski.

Berglin added three aces and two total blocks to her line. Boyd finished with another efficient hitting percentage, .357, as she only had three errors on 28 swings. Cassidy Bloom recorded 14 kills and 11 digs. She posted a .429 hitting percentage with just two errors on 28 swings. Clare Sheedy tallied 50 assists, had nine digs, and three aces. Lexi Basler collected a team-high 14 digs and had two aces. Stempkowski hit a sizzling .462 with six kills on 13 errorless swings.

Emily Lammers led the Pacers with 16 kills and 12 digs. Tabor Scanlon added 29 assists while Kaitlyn Rodriguez collected 14 digs.

Each team won two sets to force a fifth and deciding set. The Saints trailed early 4-1 but used a 5-0 run to take a 6-4 lead. A Basler ace gave Flagler the lead for good at 5-4 and Boyd and Berglin combined on a block to cap the run.

USC Aiken closed the game to 8-7 after a kill by Sidney Hogan. Flagler scored the last seven points in a row to end the match. The Saints hit .421 in the set and limited the Pacers to a .091 percentage.
