ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Chicago-native
Molly Boyd had a stellar performance this afternoon with a match-high 14 kills and hit a ridiculous .875 in Flagler College's sweep (25-19, 25-13, 25-15) over Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S&T) Thursday at the Neil Carey Arena.
Flagler extended its winning streak to six and improved its overall record to 11-9. Missouri S&T had its four-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 8-14. The Saints host USC Aiken on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. on "Senior Day" at Flagler Gym.
Boyd had 16 errorless swings today.
Jordan Berglin added 10 kills and seven digs while
Clare Sheedy recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 27 assists and 10 digs.
Colby Stempkowski finished with three total blocks.
Jordan Burton led the Miners with six kills and four digs.
The Saints used a 5-1 spurt to break open a 12-all tie in the first set. Flagler took the lead for good on a Missouri S&T service error then got a pair of double-blocks from Berglin and Stempkowski in the run. Boyd had five kills in the set on six errorless swings for an .833 hitting percentage.
The Saints opened the second set on a 4-1 lead and never looked back. Flagler hit .312 with 15 kills and five errors on 32 swings. Boyd was a perfect 6-for-6.
Like the second set, the Saints went on a 5-1 run to begin the third. Flagler hit .325 with 17 kills and four errors on 40 swings. Berglin led the way with five kills. The Miners were limited to a .000 hitting percentage with five kills and five errors on 32 swings.
