AIKEN, S.C. –
Max Gottwald's penalty kick conversion in the 50
th minute was the lone goal of the match as Flagler College bested USC Aiken 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match at Pacer Pit.
Flagler improved to 7-2-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the Peach Belt. The Saints remain unblemished on the road with a 3-0-0 record. USC Aiken dropped to 3-4-2 overall and 0-4-0 in conference play. Flagler remains on the road as it visits Clayton State University on Saturday with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The penalty kick was awarded after a throw in from the left sideline went into the box and two Flagler players were tripped up by USC Aiken players trying to receive the pass.
Toby McCallum led the Saints with four shots, including two on goal while
Luke Williams had three shots and one was on frame. Sergio Aspas had three of the Pacers' five shots in the match with one being on goal.
Ryan Rivas recorded one save as he turned in his fifth clean sheet of the season. Felipe Matos finished with five saves for USC Aiken.
The Saints out-shot the Pacers 14-5 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
