MORROW, Ga. – Fallah Johnson's goal midway through the second half was one of three Clayton State University goals in the final 45 minutes in a 4-2 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Laker Field.
Clayton State won its fourth match in a row and improved to 6-2-2 overall and 4-1-0 in the Peach Belt. The Lakers are 4-0-1 at home. Flagler is now 7-3-1 overall and 4-2-0 in conference play. The Saints lost their first match on the road (3-1-0). The two team split the regular season series. Flagler hosts Lander University on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
A Laker defender broke up a Saints attack and Johnson received a through ball, about 40 yards out from the goal on the counter attack. He dribbled in to the left side of the box and fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Lakers the lead for good (3-2) in the 68
th minute. Johnson had a match-high six shots.
Clayton State added an insurance goal in the 88
th minute.
Toby McCallum scored an unassisted goal in the 29
th minute for the Saints to tie the game at 1-all. McCallum and
Reiss Skeen led Flagler with four shots apiece in the match.
Xavier Ryan scored his third goal of the season in the 57
th minute to tie the score at 2-all.
Mauricio Uribe tallied three saves for the Lakers while
Ryan Rivas recorded four saves for the Saints.
Clayton State out-shot Flagler 20-14 and held a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks.
