WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –
Xavier Ryan and
Finn Weigelt scored two early goals, but Flagler College came away with a 2-all tie at Palm Beach Atlantic University in a non-conference men's soccer match Saturday night at the PBA Soccer/Lacrosse Field.
Flagler has a 7-4-3 overall record while Palm Beach Atlantic moves to 5-3-3. The Saints play their regular season finale on Wednesday against USC Aiken at 4 p.m. at Saints Field for "Senior Day."
The Saints got on the board first, in the second minute, after a long ball to the top left corner of the box was tracked down by
Camilo Vera. A dribble drew the PBA keeper off the line and Vera's touch pass to his right gave
Xavier Ryan a wide-open goal to shoot at.
Less than a minute later, Ryan broke up a pass and sent a through ball to Weigelt who had a one-on-one with the keeper and beat him to the left.
The score would remain the same to the half.
A Tin Vastic goal in the 57
th minute cut the Sailfish deficit in half.
With just a little over five minutes left in the match, Federico Serra possessed the ball near the end line with three Flagler players closing in. Serra flicked the ball up and the ball deflected off the shoulder of Livio Von Holzen, who was the only Sailfish around a sea of Saints. The ball slipped past Flagler's keeper for the equalizer.
Nico Mejia collected three saves in his first action of the season. Flavio Giannini finished with three saves for PBA.
Each team took 10 shots and had three corner kicks.
