Berglin passes 1,000 career kills and leads Saints past Jaguars

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Jordan Berglin recorded a match-high 18 kills and became the 11th Flagler College volleyball player to reach the 1,000-kill club in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-13, 28-26, 26-24) win over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Flagler won its third match in a row, and second against Augusta in less than a week, to improve to 8-9 overall and 4-2 in the Peach Belt. Augusta dropped to 12-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is a non-conference match on Monday at Edward Waters University at 6 p.m.

Berglin notched her sixth double-double of the season as she added 11 digs to her 18 kills. She added four total blocks to her line. Molly Boyd added 11 kills, hit 348, and had six total blocks. Clare Sheedy posted her team-leading seventh double-double as she tallied a match-best 48 assists and collected 13 digs. Lexi Basler corralled a match-high 19 digs. Colby Stempkowski finished with an efficient .471 hitting percentage as she had nine kills with just one error on 17 swings. Amelia Fitzpatrick was one kill shy of a double-double as she recorded nine kills and 11 digs.

Sophia Kruczko led the Jaguars with 13 kills and she hit .481 with zero errors on 27 swings. Janvier Buggs turned in a double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs. Jada Suguturaga recorded five total blocks.

After dropping the first set, the Saints dominated with a .407 hitting percentage. Flagler had 13 kills with just two errors on 27 swings. Conversely, the Jaguars were limited to a -.056 hitting percentage with seven kills and nine errors on 36 swings.

The third set saw 13 ties and 10 lead changes. After the Jaguars broke set point twice, Fitzpatrick broke Augusta's set point with a kill to knot the score at 26. Berglin's kill gave the advantage to Flagler and Cassidy Bloom's ace wrapped up the set. She had three aces in the set.

The fourth set had 10 ties and three lead changes. Both teams finished with low hitting percentage as Flagler hit .114 and Augusta .073. Berglin recorded five of her kills in the set. A block by Boyd broke the Jaguars set point and tied the set at 24. Boyd followed with an ace and a hitting error by Augusta ended the match.
