AMERICUS, Ga. –
Alex Alexandrou scored in the 25
th minute but that would Flagler College's lone tally in a 1-1 tie at Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Wednesday night at Hurricane Field.
Flagler is now 8-4-2 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play. The Saints are now in a tie for second place with the University of North Georgia with 16 points. Both teams have one league match to play and the Nighthawks own the tiebreaker with two wins over the Saints. Georgia Southwestern is now 4-5-3 overall and 2-5-1 in league play. The Hurricanes are tied for fourth place with Lander University with each team having seven points. The two teams split their season series. Flagler plays its last non-conference match on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Flagler's goal started with a counterattack up the right sideline.
Luke Williams' touch pass to Alexandrou about 30 yards out off the top right-corner of the box. Alexandrou pivoted around and fired a shot inside the right post to give the Saints and early lead.
Less than one minute later, Jose Monteagudo blasted a shot that Flagler's keeper was able to stop, but Kynu Samuels cleaned up the loose ball and buried it in the back of the net for the equalizer.
Marcus Hedemann,
Toby McCallum, and
Andres Morral each took three shots for Flagler. Andres Melendez led GSW with four shots.
Ryan Rivas recorded six saves for the Saints while Noah Kasin had three for the Hurricanes.
Flagler out-shot Georgia Southwestern 17-14 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
