DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Jorge Sandoval's goal with just 24 seconds left to go gave the University of North Georgia a 2-1 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Complex.
North Georgia improved to 7-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 8-4-1 overall and 5-3-0 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is a match at Georgia Southwestern State University, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Flagler had a free kick from about 25 yards out, near the top of the box.
Reiss Skeen's shot was saved with 45 seconds remaining in the game.
The North Georgia keeper punted the ball just beyond the midfield line. The ball was knocked back to the other half of the field before a Nighthawk player kicked the ball back over the line and it was deflected out of bounds by a Saints player. A quick throw in to Sandoval started his short run to the top left corner of the box, where on one bounce he shot the ball to the top right corner of the goal just out of reach of the Saints keeper.
The Saints took an early lead when
Alex Alexandrou scored off a rebound of
Toby McCallum's original shot in the 12
th minute.
Quinn Thompson scored the equalizer in the 43
rd minute for North Georgia.
Flagler's
Ryan Rivas tied his career high with nine saves. Aleksa Lukic recorded four saves for the Nighthawks.
North Georgia out-shot Flagler 26-9 and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
