Dana Heimen played her way to the semifinal round of the ITA Cup this afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center.
After being the runner-up in the ITA Southeast Regionals, Heimen found her way to the ITA Cup, a first-time appearance in singles for the senior. The four-day national tournament began on Thursday Oct. 10 and will wrap up on Sunday, Oct. 13. Featuring 16 of the nations best players, to qualify for the ITA Cup, the participants had ot win their regional tournament, make it to the final round or perform in some high level capacity.
On Thursday, Heimen cleared the round of 16 with ease, defeating her opponent in two sets, both 6-1. Th quarterfinal round saw Heimen face Jessica Binzari of Midwestern State University. She dropped the first set 6-3, but took sets two and three 6-2.
Heimen met her end, playing against her toughest opponent of the tournament in Ashleigh Simes of Lee University. After forcing her first set to a tie break, Heimen made an impressive 3-0 run in the second before falling 7-5..
The Saints will be back in action at the Embry-Riddle Fall Invite on Oct. 25 - Oct. 27 at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
