AIKEN, S.C.-
Clare Sheedy had a pair of season highs with 47 assists and 18 digs for her second-consecutive double-double and fifth overall in Flagler College's hard-fought 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-25, 15-13) loss to USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match at the Convocation Center.
Flagler fell to 5-8 on the season and 1-1 in Peach Belt Conference action. The Pacers improved to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the PBC. The Saints are back in action Saturday at Lander University with a 6 p.m. start.
Trailing 2-1 in the match, the Saints took the fourth set in a dominant 25-15 fashion. Flagler jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back. The Saints held the Pacers to a .000 hitting percentage with seven kills and seven errors on 36 swings.
Jordan Berglin shined with five kills, four digs, and two total blocks.
In the fifth set, the Pacers sprinted to a 6-1 lead, but the Saints answered and closed to within one (7-6) after a Sheedy and
Molly Boyd double-block. Later, the Saints fought off the first set point thanks to a
Gracie Fleming kill to close the gap to 14-13. But Alli Bishop closed the match for USC Aiken with a kill.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Saints had three players nab double figures. Berglin led the effort with 16 kills good for her season high. She added a season best 19 digs to complete her fourth double-double and recorded five total blocks.
Molly Boyd was right behind her with 15 kills and she tacked on seven total blocks.
Cassidy Bloom rounded out the kill leaders with 11 on the night tying her season high and she completed her second double-double in as many matches with 18 digs.
On the defensive side of things,
Amelia Fitzpatrick was one of five Saints to record double-figures in digs as she covered the court for a career high 20. Her previous high was 14 which the had twice.
Lexi Basler tied Fitzpatrick with a season-best 20 digs.
For the Pacers, Kaitlyn Rodriquez led the offense with 17 kills and she added 14 digs for a double-double. Taber Scanlon notched a double-double with 26 assists and 13 digs while Sadie McKay led the defense with 25 digs.
