MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Sharale McCormick scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Flagler College's 87-75 loss to Georgia College & State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
At the halfway point of the season, Flagler is 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College won its third game in a row at home and improved to 8-6 overall and evened its conference record to 2-2. The Saints host Augusta University on Wednesday at Flagler Gym.
Flagler trailed by as many as 26 (62-36) in the third quarter, but used a 26-9 run to close the gap to 71-62 with 4:37 left in the game after a jumper by
Jessica Dowdy. The Saints couldn't get any closer.
Destiny McClendon scored 11 of her 18 points from the free throw line. Her string of 21 consecutive free throws made came to an end early in the fourth quarter. McClendon has made 89.7 percent of her free throw attempts this season. Dowdy added 11 points.
Maddie Erickson grabbed eight rebounds.
The Saints shot 52.9 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter, which helped them score 29 points. That was the most points Flagler has scored in a quarter since putting up 32 points in the fourth quarter in a 103-68 rout of Georgia College, Feb. 23, 2022 at Flagler Gym.
Alexa Geary came off the bench to pace a balanced scoring attack by the Bobcats with 15 points. She was one of six players to score in double figures. Hannah Cail added 13 points while Dashaun Jackson recorded a double-double with 13 points and she grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Myra Strickland and
Miracle Parker each scored 12 points. Ashiya Willis tacked on 11 points. Jada Warren added 12 more rebounds while Cierra Foster tallied a game-high five assists.
