ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jordan Berglin and
Cecilia Robert both led with 18 kills, but it wasn't enough in Flagler College's 3-2 (25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 21-25, 12-15) loss to USC Aiken in Flagler Gymnasium on Saturday.
Freshmen
Amelia Fitzpatrick and
Lainee Mack posted double-doubles for the Saints. Fitzpatrick posted 26 assists and 10 digs, while Mack dug up 13 balls and added 23 assists.
Molly Boyd added 8 kills, 7 blocks and hit .429 for Flagler.
Edie Lamoreaux had a season high 30 digs against the Pacers.
Flagler came out strong, earning a win in the first set 25-21. The second set seemed to be working in favor of the Pacers as they held a 6 point lead at 10-4. A kill from Berglin shifted the momentum and allowed the Saints to take the next 8 out of 10 points to tie the set 12-12. Flagler ran with their comeback and took the second set 25-18, ending on a service ace from Fitzpatrick. USC Aiken came back to earn the reverse sweep in dramatic fashion.
As a team, the Saints posted 65 kills, 89 digs and 12 blocks, beating the Pacers out in all three categories.
Cat Bodick led USC Aiken with 13 kills and Emily Lammers added 4 service aces. Lexi Rogers posted a double-double for the Pacers with 11 kills and 19 digs.
USC Aiken improved to 10-4 overall and 1-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 3-12 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Flagler will face Georgia College and State University on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. in Flagler Gymnasium.
