AIKEN, S.C. –
Liam Fisch's goal in the 21
st minute is all Flagler College needed in a 3-0 win over USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer opener at Pacer Pit Wednesday evening.
Flagler improved to 1-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play. It was the program's third consecutive conference opening victory. USC Aiken dropped to 0-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.
Toby McCallum and
Marcus Hedemann added second half goals for the Saints.
Max Gottwald tallied an assist on McCallum's goal.
With 15 minutes left to play, both teams were forced off the field due to a lightning delay. A second lightning delay with under nine minutes remaining forced a second stoppage, and during that break, both coaches decided to end the game.
Fisch and Hedemann each finished with four shots for the Saints. Jose Rabadan and Wynston Johnson both had two shots for USC Aiken.
Kevin Harr tuned in a clean sheet as he did not see a shot on goal. Carson Donahue recorded three saves for the Pacers.
Flagler out-shot USC Aiken 19-6, but the Pacers led in corner kicks 8-4.
The Saints head to Morrow, Georgia to face Clayton State University on Saturday at noon at Laker Field.
