Moss and Fry home runs help Flagler sweep Augusta in PBC play

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- The Flagler College softball team swept Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Flagler Field.
 
In game one, the Saints (17-31, 12-14) won 9-8.
 
Flagler did most of its scoring in the third inning, starting with a single through the left side from Courtney Robinson to plate Paige Maseda and Madison Vogel. Mackenzie Smith connected on a double to left center to bat in Cassidy Crump and Robinson. Trinity Fry put the Saints up 5-1 with a single to right field, allowing Parker to score. 
 
Jordan Moss highlighted the game with a three-run home run to left field, plating both Smith and Fry.
 
The Jaguars (17-27, 4-22) responded in the fifth with a single from Paige Patterson to allow Lauren Barrett to score.
 
In the sixth, a sacrifice fly from Parker plated Mercedes Salinas.
 
In the seventh inning, Augusta came out strong, collecting six runs. The Jaguars connected a double, two singles and took advantage of two Flagler errors to come within one at 9-8.
 
Jordan Sheets (8-12) earned the win after tossing six innings, giving up seven hits and seven runs. The freshman induced five fly outs and 12 ground outs.
 
Madelyn Wise (S, 3) was credited the save after pitching one inning in relief. Wise gave up two hits and one run.
 
In game two, the Saints won 6-1.
 
Augusta scored first with a sacrifice fly to right field to allow Patterson to score.
 
In the third inning, Robinson's single to left field drove in Maseda and Moss, putting the Saints on the board at 2-1. A double from Parker allowed Robinson to score.
 
In the fourth inning, Maseda's single allowed Youngblood to score.
 
Trinity Fry concluded the scoring in the fifth inning with a two-RBI home run, to plate Smith at 6-1.
 
Rachel Hester (6-10) pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and one run.
 
Ansley Gibson (9-14) pitched six innings, giving up seven hits and six runs.
 
Next, the Saints will Augusta at 12 p.m. tomorrow.
