AIKEN, S.C.- The Flagler College softball team split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against the University of South Carolina Aiken on Saturday at J.H. Satcher Field.
The Saints (18-27, 10-13) put up four runs in the first inning to secure the win in game one at 4-3.
Flagler opened the inning with
Paige Maseda on second base after being hit by a pitch and stealing. A ground out from
Abbey O'Connor put Maseda on third. Robinson reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at first and third. A single from
Cassidy Crump allowed Maseda to score.
Mackenzie Smith secured her seventh home run of the season with a 3-RBI homer to left field to conclude the Saints' scoring at 4-0, plating Crump and Robinson.
Jordan Sheets (7-11) earned the win after tossing six innings, giving up seven hits and three runs. The freshman had three strikeouts and induced five fly outs and 10 ground outs.
Madelyn Wise was credited with the save after coming in to shut the Pacers down at the bottom of the seventh.
The Pacers scored one run in the fourth inning off Grace Anne Thompkins. In the sixth, they put up two more with a single to plate Jena Dewalt and scored their last run off a Flagler fielding error.
Rebekah Cook (0-2) took the loss after pitching an inning, giving up two hits and four runs.
In game two, the Saints lost 5-2.
In the second inning, a fielder's choice and an Aiken fielding error allowed Crump to score at 1-0. In the fourth inning, a single from
Trinity Fry allowed
Kiersten James. The Saints trailed 3-2.
Rachel Hester (5-9) took the loss after four innings, giving up nine hits and four runs. The sophomore had two strikeouts and induced seven fly outs and three ground outs.
Lakyn Phillips (9-13) earned the win after a complete game, giving up four hits and two runs.
Aiken collected one run in the second inning off Skylar Moreley and another in the third off Emily Ayers. The Pacers scored two more over the fifth and sixth, each off a single to plate Ayers and Ella Stone.
The Saints will face the Pacers tomorrow, April 15 in a single game.
