GREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 5 (ITA Division II Collegiate Tennis Rankings) Flagler College women's tennis team clinched at least a share of the regular season league title with a 7-0 win over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference match at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center Thursday afternoon.
Flagler improved to 15-4 overall and 6-0 in the Peach Belt. The Saints can win the PBC regular season outright, for the first time since joining the league in 2009-10, with a win on Sunday at 3 p.m. against Augusta University at the Flagler Tennis Center. Lander fell to 9-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
The Saints coasted through doubles play as No. 30-ranked
Dana Heimen and
Luisa Hrda cruised to a win at No. 1 while
Nadja Meier and
Addison Skye Breunich paired for the second time this year for a 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point.
Flagler went on to win five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Laura Jipescu's win at No. 4 clinched the match of the Saints. Hrda, ranked No. 7, won in straight sets and she extended her winning streak to four. Meier, ranked No. 5, won her 23
rd consecutive match.
Eryka Kruk and
Charlotta Buss also posted wins. Breunich went three sets to defeat Shea Connelly.
